ADDENDUMS

JUSTACARROT PAGE 17

I need to go back and edit this now but thought I'd go ahead and make an addendum post.

Page 17 states that justacarrot's game deindexing was a bug. This was seen as true at the time but it is now known staff lied to justacarrot and it was deindexed due to content warnings.

justacarrot talks about it here. I hope to update it in the zine itself soon. Thank you.

QUEER GAMES BUNDLE

Hi! I didn't include this in the zine and I'm still far too tired and busy to add more addendums but let's go over another situation involving queer content and itchio which has more bizarre implications. This honestly slipped my mind at the time of making the zine but now Power of Pride exists which allows for additional examples of this behavior.

Last year, Queer Games bundle almost failed to lunch due to the tickets being obstructed.

I've learned that our request was obstructed behind the scenes again by some factor. Just to be clear, I asked repeatedly if someone could just let me know if that was the case, and they didn't.
As we did last year, I'm falling back to plan B, which is a flattened bundle with just "revenue" or "no revenue" options. Because I don't know the nature of the holdup, I also said that it was okay to flatten us further if needed. That would mean everyone gets an identical split. I hope that isn't the case, but want to be prepared and also let you know. You don't need to do anything about this possibility right now.
Everyone will have seven full days to approve the updated bundle pages after they're built. I don't know yet when that will be, I just sent the new request a few minutes ago. As in the past, we'll send out links to approve those pages. If you're going out of town or anything, please think about how you can get those emails and access your itchio dashboard and plan ahead.

Other updates came from QGB who was mostly nice regarding Itchio staff's failure to do their job at the time.

Hi, some FAQs about the delay, and an update
1. Have you emailed itchio? Yes, weekly, have tried other ways too
2. Can't we just make the bundle ourselves? In theory, we can, but we still need itchio's help in almost any scenario because of the size of the bundle, so this is not a good option for us
3. Should we all email/post to itchio? Please, please, DO NOT do that. If itchio staff isn't responding, it's almost definitely because they're overwhelmed with work. It is a very small team. Adding more messages of any kind won't help. The social media probably isn't administered by the same person anyway, seriously please don't do anything like this to them
On our end, I've escalated by sending a message a different way to try to reach someone.
4. What will happen when the bundle is processed? I'm afraid to miss an email. This will work the same as in the past, so you'll need to approve our two bundle pages (regular price & PWYW price) from your itchio account. I don't know what the timeline will be, but will promise now that you'll have a full week to approve after we send out those links.

The bundle is a very laborious task, so laborious that it resulted in the Queer Games Bundle disbanding. QGB never specified they disbanded because of Itchio staff, and admittedly, the stress of running the bundle was visible prior to all of this happening, but I feel its important to add QGB disbanded after Itchio staff completely dropped the ball.

Power of Pride has taken over the role of Queer Games Bundle. This team ran the Queer Halloween Bundle, which was cancelled in 2025:

This is extremely unfortunate, and we're grateful to the folks behind the Queer Games Bundle for everything they've done. It isn't easy. We had to cancel our own bundle last year due to a combination of low spoons and the situation with Collective Shout impacting many of our developers at the time.

This was understandable and something my friends and I saw coming at the time, but well, with the transition to Power of Pride, I felt it was important to continue cataloguing Itchio staff dropping the fucking ball.

The Power of Pride Bundle began its preparation months in advance, after the announcement of QGB disbandment. On May 5th, this email was sent to participants:

Hello, everyone! We'll cut to the chase here with a simple timeline of events:
Monday, April 20: Initial email to itchio Support is sent. We sent a message in the itchio Discord Server about our ticket as well, but unfortunately the site undergoes a DDOS attack not long after.
Monday, April 27: We send another message in the itchio Discord Server about our ticket. Lyn-Marie acknowledges our ticket and says, "we will follow up with you tonight, thanks for your patience!"
Wednesday, April 29: We send a follow-up response in the Discord asking for the status of the ticket. No response given.
Friday, May 1: We send a follow-up response in the Discord asking for the status of the ticket. No response given.
Monday, May 4: We send a response to the automated ticket email from itchio Support. No response has been provided yet.

TL;DR: itchio Support has not yet fulfilled our request to import entries from the jam page to our bundles.

This was excellent communication though concerning since Itchio has left many game devs in the dark as well as last years' happenings with QGB.

On the 12th, Power of Pride manually populated the bundles (a lot of labor they aren't PAID for, remember, this is NOT their job.. it's almost like  it's someone else's job).

The Bundle Team has gone ahead and manually populated the bundles. Please click the buttons below and follow the prompts on the top left bar of the bundle pages to approve your participation. Please be sure to approve both pages.

On 5/20, the Power of Pride bundle was made ready for sell with this disclaimer:

The team would like to note that the revenue splits have not been corrected by the itch support team yet, and apologize for any and all distress caused by this inconvenience. We have attempted numerous times to contact support and site admins via official channels to coordinate their assistance. We understand that many participants are relying on the potential income from sales and will continue to do our best to resolve this matter before the sale begins. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

On 5/21, Power of Pride made this post:

Is there anyone who may be able to get in contact with @itch.io or @leafo.itch.io? We originally sent in Ticket #360599 on April 20, 2027 for assistance with our upcoming bundles and it was briefly acknowledged on Apr 27, but no action was taken to our knowledge. We launch June 1 so it's (cont)
important that we have our revenue splits adjusted. We currently are not able to manually adjust them ourselves due to the fact we have over 100 participants relying on the potential revenue.

Leafo actually did respond the same day:

I'll take a look and get back to you in the ticket

He didn't though. Apparently, there was nothing. There is an extensive Power of Pride Bsky thread from May 27h. I will select certain bits from to describe what is occuring:

Hey gang. We wish we had some kind of exciting announcement leading up to the launch of our bundle, but circumstances beyond our control make us unsure if we will launch on time at all. The story isn't new for most of you - it's unfortunately the continuing erosion of service from @itch.io
On 4/20/26, we completed our vetting process and asked itch to set up the bundle. We cannot do this entirely by ourselves, as bundles this large use very small percentage splits. On 4/27/26, we messaged them on Discord and were told to expect follow-up that night, but no action was taken.
On 5/11/26, after *another* two weeks and three more messages/emails which received no response, we manually set up the bundle as best we could—except for the percentage split, which again must be done by itch manually. We notified them again that we need their help—again, no response.
On 5/21/26, a month after the original ticket was opened, and two ignored messages later, we made a post here asking
@leafo.itch.io to intervene and get the bundle set up. 7 *minutes* later, he responded saying that he would take action. 6 *days* later, nothing has changed.
Learning from previous bundles we've assisted & hosted, we wanted to make sure we had our ducks in a row in a reasonable timeframe and that we were effective partners for both our contributors as well as itch. We have not gone out of our way to spam them about this. We have tried to be good partners
itch has an impressive track record in helping the under-served—often hosting charity fundraising bundles that wouldn't get visibility or support otherwise. Everyone wants to see this platform succeed. We're not sure how to improve their ticket response, but clearly something needs to change.
We have done everything we can to make this bundle launch on time for Pride Month. It's been nerve-wracking to have friends offer to reach out to the support team on our behalf just for nothing to happen, as we tick down this deadline with 200+ queer creators who could really use the help...
The problems with itch as a platform for game developers only continue to get worse, but many of us (including the organizers) call it home for our games that need to exist but would not benefit from being listed on storefronts like Steam. What can we do to make this bundle happen, @leafo.itch.io?

So, why am I cataloguing? Because I have no idea if this has happened to other bundles but the fact it has happened to two queer bundles in a row is BIZARRE. And also, well, I expected to pay part of my rent with this bundle, but now, that seems like it will not go to plan because of Itchio staff being LIKE THIS.

I'm posting while enraged, smiles. Because I am enraged. The zine was released 6 months after Leafo's reindexing address on the forums. It's been 10 months now. Are we ready for it to be a year?
