Q: Do you have any thoughts or feelings about how your characters are colored? Or maybe strong opinions about color schemes?
A:

Noooooo.. As long as they aren't intentionally lightened or whitewash, I'm generally not too picky about most things. I like to paint and part of my painting style is just feeling out colors. I avoid consistency somewhat intentionally at times and only try to keep colors consistent in certain works.

That is to say I think some people don't know how to draw Black people.. In that case you should draw them according to reference.. just play it safe..  The most prevalent example of this is people choosing to draw my whitepassing characters occasionally, not realizing they are mixed, and they may straighten their hair.. This bothers me a lot. As mentioned I dislike when my characters are whitewashed or made lighter in a way that is Obvious to me, even if done unintentionally.

Even with hair textures I can be generally kind though. Like.. I consider Adelaide's hair to be a freeform loc but I don't mind if its depicted as an afro textured style that looks similar because locs, even freeform locs, can look all kinds of ways.. it sparks joy to see my characters with different hairstyles I love.. it's my culture and seeing artists depict aspects of my culture makes me happy....

So.. I just want people to keep in mind my ethnicity being a thing in my work is all... Coughs there's a lot of soulful depictions of my characters that are very well done so it's hard to choose one but I don't get to show off this artfight piece from thegnomish too often.. It is one of my favorite pieces I've ever received smiles.

Q: How did the Meat Girl protags meet? I'd like to know more about them if that's OK
A:

Vivienne and Maya met normal style. LOL. I genuinely think they just ran into each other in a public space like a grocery store or something and was like "another alternative girl.. lesbian time" and then got to know each other from there. I like to think Maya ran into Vivienne working at a grocery store and detected her alt girl swag even while she was toned down for work.

Their relationship probably just became romantic rather than the two ever properly making things official.. Communication skills of slime. They rely on mutual understanding gained through time spent together but forget about the power of Using Your Words.

Q: This isnt really a question but I just want to say Meat Girl was the most relatable piece of media Ive ever seen, read or played. Made me think about myself a lot and I dont think Im going to forget about this game for a long time. I would say forever but my memory is horrible so who knows. Thank you for making such an amazing game
A:

Thank you!! I want Meat Girl and things I create in general to be related to by people since a lot of exprences are overlooked or frequently depicted as black and white.. It means a lot to me!

If you forget Meat Girl, may osmething else you relate to and/or love replace it!

a cartoon character is wearing a pink mask and knee pads .

Q: Does Sera have scars on her arms & legs? Ive been meaning to draw her but i cant tell LOL (_ _ ) if so are they self inflicted or from others?
A: Sera makes her scars visible to other girls on purpose, but how she received them and what they are exactly is up for interpretation. She likely changes the story all the time. You're free to draw them how you like or exclude them entirely. They're likely all over her body, but it doesn't really matter that much.

This is how Io draws them and I think it captures them really well.

A: I AM SO HAPPY.
the meat background is cute and her expression is really great. the way you drew her facial features is really magnificent. i like the straight line of the lower eyelid. her hair is so so cute, and the colors are so so good. your brain is huge. I am so honored and happy.
